An ongoing series of work entitled deconstruction, in which i create something in order to be destroyed (or rather de_constructed), leaving the only evidence of these works as video pieces and photographs.
DE_CONSTRUCTION I
this is the first video in the series made way back at the end of first year it was my first step in experementing with the destruction of my own work , i cast blocks of ice and filmed them over 7 hours as they melted this footage was then edited together with footage of a cast of my head made from icing sugar desintigrating, it was also my first experiment with time lapse video .
DE_CONSTRUCTION II
The second piece in the series sees me manically destroying a plaster and fiberglass composite pillar. This pillar was created as i began to become interested in architecture particularly abandoned buildings and ruins. it was at this point that the theme of this series clicked in my head, and the link between the first video and this became apparent. Two other aspects of this series also began to take shape at this point.
-The use of myself as part of my work.
-These works as an insight into my own state of mind, in this case a manic (definition from wikipedia :a state of abnormally elevated or irritable mood, arousal, and/ or energy levels).side of my personality, looking at the first video this is also evident as representitive of feelings of insignificance.
DE_CONSTRUCTION (UNTITLED)

The third work in this series is as of yet untitled and consists of a series of wheat pasted images on a boarded up building in limerick city. These images consist of photographs of abandoned buildings collaged together and distorted. This work is unique in the series as it is the only piece which i did not personally destroy, rather it vanished piece by piece over a period of two weeks from when i put it up. The only remaining evidence of it being photographic.
DE_CONSTRUCTION III
The fourth and so far final piece in this series (so far) sees me both simultaneously creating and destroying the same piece of work, i believe this represents paranoia. The piece of work i am destroying is based upon skate-able architectural forms and consists of a wooden frame which is covered by drawings and illustrations torn from my sketchbooks throughout the last year (i found it harder to destroy my sketchbooks than anything else so far !).
Hopefully this series will continue to expand alongside my other work, eventually i would like to have a dedicated exhibition for these works, there are one or two other works which are part of this series (the further distorted metal frame of the pillar from deconstruction II being one of them) but i dont have the photographs to hand il add them when i find them.
NOTE: apologies for the video quality, i was trying to keep the file sizes small in order to upload , next time i have fast internet il upload full quality to my youtube channel.
